New Fuji Cameras Announced For 2014

And it may not be all good news ..

I posted this at Dpreview as well and it will be interesting to see what sort of feedback it generates there.

This is the list of Fujifilm products that will be announced at the 2014 CES show in early January:

  • Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R lens
  • Fujifilm FinePix XP70 camera
  • Fujifilm FinePix S1 camera
  • Fujifilm FinePix S9200 camera
  • Fujifilm FinePix S9400W camera

It seems the weather sealed X camera will be announced a little later.

Interesting line-up though.

No HS series announced, it looks like the new path is the motorized S series.

S1 to take over from the HS50/Sl1000 perhaps? Very bad news if true for those of us hoping for an improved HS50. However it does seem more in line with what the other manufacturers offer in the superzoom/bridge class and probably a lot cheaper to make as well.

That being the case my association with Fuji will end right there. The X series ICL cameras are nice but the pricing here is horrendous. To buy an XA1 here with the kit lens is $968.00 dollars, but to buy the X lens 55-200mm is almost $1200NZD which puts the price into a whole new bracket of camera equipment.

Of course I could be getting ahead of myself .. so fingers crossed anyways. We will have a much better idea by Jan 10th.

Edit: It also occurs to me that the S1 designation could be a lower spec X-S1.

  1. Still getting a lot of pleasure from my HS50 though. Will it become a collector’s item? Saw someone recently with a HS20. They were still enjoying using it. I encouraged him to keep it – he may well have the best of the bunch.

    1. In some respects I think of all the HS EXR series the HS20 was very close to what I wanted from an in one solution for a camera, with the exception that it needed to have the HS50’s reflexes.

I really hope the S1 turns out to be a next step in the bridgecamera evolution with manual zoom and say a 600 mm lens with a 1 1/7 12 mp sized sensor ( same as the Pentax MX-1) and incorporates the digital zoom, which Fuji is good at implementing.
Then we would have an interesting piece of hardware, especially if it comes with the all important manual zoom.

  2. My HS50 is still pleasing me too. It will never be a DSLR but then again, I don’t have any expectations that it could be. A great pity if they don’t refine the concept as the manual zoom is just so much easier and faster than all the opposition. A faster lens and a bigger sensor and it would be so close to perfect.
